Deck Dissection
-Yugi Muto-
-Yugi Muto-
Yugi Muto's deck is supposed to be within the league, one of the most powerful decks within the world. I am using the deck he uses against Atem during his final duel for a reference. While the God Cards aren't within it, I'll still go over them. Yugi's deck like many other characters is a classic beat-down deck. It's made to slowly beat your opponent's monster down and end with overpowering them. It's also made for cool monsters and for showmanship. But in reality it has little practicality in it. The bad thing about it is the fact that due to the anime as well as the manga, Yugi's deck is constantly changing. There isn't anything wrong with it, but it always tends to have the ability to exploit the weakness of every deck it faces. It's haphazard and has multiple strategies going for them. It really has no consistent theme along with it. It's major theme if any can be decided is that of a Dark Magician Deck. This is said because it hosts many of the Dark Magician cards as well as supplement trap and spells. But it can be so much more concise especially with random monsters like Gazelle and the Knights. The spell and trap are mostly jack of all trades, some common staples and so not so common all-around good cards which if a theme was concise could be traded in for more specialized cards. The deck itself can be defeated by an average put together theme and easily ripped apart if you know how to. Though it isn't a terrible deck, it's the kind of deck you make when you first play Yu-Gi-Oh! Total beatdown, random cards. Yugi's deck is maybe a step above that, still not that good but it has some direction.
Now on the terms of God Cards. God Cards are not all that powerful as seen by this deck supposedly was able to take them all down. There are legal God Cards able to be played within the official TCG. Obelisk which is a pure power house and can be eliminated simply by playing a spell, trap, or effect that does not target it specifically. The cards are protected from targeted effect but something like Lightning Vortex could take it away. The Winged Dragon of Ra is the same while it may be possible to overpower Obelisk if the effect of Ra is used it can be seen as impossible to overpower it. Although the player must pay all but 100 LP to increase it's power, nothing more, nothing less. Using a simple spell to decrease LP will defeat your opponent. So handling Ra means bypassing it and going straight for the duelist. If there summoned, there staying on the field atleast that turn. There summons can't be negated but it's not an automatic defeat just means you have to rework your strategy a bit. Also for these cards to be even brought out, they need to tribute three monsters. While on use with swarm deck and in Yugi's deck all that's needed control it's fairly easy to block the conditions needed to summon a God. Also Obelisk effect to wipe all monsters requires two tributes. So even if Obelisk is summoned as long as you keep regulating control and stopping those two tributes being brought out Obelisk is just a powerhouse monster. Overall Yugi's deck and the God Cards are plot decks there used for fun and they are fun to use. There not horribly designed and some decks later on are. Hopefully I'll be writing more dissections. Please comment if you want a character's deck that you love to be dissected.
