Domino City. The city where it had all begun. Well where the important events from her had begun. Mai could have sworn that it had been only yesterday where she had been standing on the city's port, waiting to get on board of the giant ship that was to take her and many other duelists to Dueslist Kingdom for Pegasus' tournament. Of course that was not the case. Far from it. That tournament had been held quite a few months ago. Since then a lot had happened. Kaiba had hosted a tournament of his own - no, two. She always seemed to forget about his Grand Championship since she hadn't participated. She had instead used that time to travel away from Domino City and rethink of who she was and her actions following the Battle City tournament.
Mai quickly shook her head, her blond curls swaying from side to side along with the motion. She wasn't going to think back of that part of her life. It had been the greatest mistake she had made, and there was no way she would ever agree to have anything like that happen ever again. Nightmares still flooded her subconscious when she was sleeping, and no matter what she did or where she was, she was never able to shake the horrible feeling of her past actions. She had been so naive. Believing that some mystical powers could have made her better. Perhaps dueling wise it had taught her a few things, but it had definitely not made her a stronger person, that was certain. "Honestly Mai, what were you thinking." The blonde mumbled to herself with a sigh. That was all part of her past now. All she had to do was let it go and forget all about it. Although being back in Domino City wasn't helping that much. It had been here that it had all happened. She certainly hadn't come back to try and forget the memories, as it never would have worked. No. Instead she had come back to the ever famous Duel City for one thing. Well two truly.
The first of those things being Kaiba's new tournament. She had been quite surprised when she had received an invitation, considering she had somewhat snubbed his last tournament. She supposed he still somehow viewed her as a strong dueslist, and had simply told his workers to send invitations to the dueslist he considered strong. Or at least able to work a duel disk. It was the most probable explanation for her invitation. She wasn't going to complain though, since it brought her back to the city. Which lead to her second reason to be back. She had some apologies to make. some important apologies. It would definitely be the first step to leaving behind the past. She walked along a pathway through the park, dressed in the same outfit she had worn during the battle city tournament. Some of the kids around were dueling between themselves with Kaiba Corp duel disk systems on their wrists. Mai looked down at her own wrist, plain with the exception of gloves. She had left her duel disk in her car at the hotel she was staying at, since she would have no real use for it until the tournament started. A few of the kids looked up from their duels when she passed by, and a few murmurs followed her. 'That's Mai Valentine!' 'You think she's here for the tournament?' 'No one has known where she's been for months now!' 'Oh man, I have no chance of winning this competition if she's entering!' 'You're worried about her? You should worry about Kaiba, or Yugi Motou! Or even Rex Raptor!' 'Rex Raptor! I'd rather worry about Joey Wheeler!' A pang of guilt hit Mai at the mention of Yugi and Joey's names. She soon spotted a bench and moved herself towards it, sinking down onto it and putting her face in between her hands, blocking out her surrondings. She had never expected her return to Domino City to be this hard. Not one bit.

"Morons..."muttered Kaiba as he walked throughout the park. He had officially had it with his incompetent security team, and having to replace an entire team wasn't easy. Every applicant for the open positions since then had either been a fan of his and were kissing his butt every chance they had,or were talking about how Joey Wheeler would one day replace Yugi Mutou.
As if...thought Kaiba as he rubbed his temples. The quiet of the park was relaxing him somewhat. At least for now. Every group of people he passed were talking about his tournament and pointing at him excitedly as he walked past.
No way,it is him. Lets challenge him. Dude,he would beat you. Oh he's cute...were just some of the things Kaiba would hear, and honestly, yes he let the fame go to his head a bit. He ran a gaming company and owned at the very least half if not more of Domino,on top of being the number two duelist throughout the country and well within the top ten duelists of the world. He enjoyed every minute of fame.
The look of surprise on Kaiba's face would've been newsworthy as he passed by a parkbench and spotted the very familiar beautiful and curvy form of Mai Valentine. Remembering all too well what she had tried to pull the last time they were around gave him enough reason to talk to her...at the very least he wanted to see if she was going to be in his tournament, that and he loved bringing up everyone's faults. Hell,he brought up Joey's on a daily basis.
"Not thinking about using the Seal of Orichalcos in my tournament are you Valentine?"he asks snidely as he takes the seat next to her.

"Not thinking about using the Seal of Orichalcos in my tournament are you Valentine?" The familiar voice sent a chill down Mai's spine. It wasn't really the speaker who was the reason for the chills, since he did own just about half of Domino City, it was more along the lines of the sense of surprise she felt when she heard his voice. She looked up just as he sat down beside her. The nerve of him. He might be Seto Kaiba, but that didn't give him the right to bring up such a mistake from her past. Although come to think about it, she really could expect much better from him. He was, after all, the person who used any possible excuse to challenge Yugi to a duel to try and reclaim his King of Games title. He was also the one who seemed to enjoy bothering Joey at every possible oppurtunity, weither it be to remind him how he had never beat him, or how much of a mutt he thought of him. Although Mai had herself done a few similiar things of the sort, she had given up on a lot of them after a while. Kaiba on the other hand, seemed to enjoy bringing up these kinds of things whenever he could.
"Don't worry about it hun, I've decided to go easy on everyone and give you a chance to win, even though it's still quite low." She replied back, shooting a slight glare in his direction. She could easily be as arrogant as him, and he knew it. It was probably out of pure spite that he had brought up the subject of the Orichalcos. It was true that she had somewhat made things complicated for him. Or at least the 'good side' of the situation. Defeating Joey in a duel and taking his soul had definitely not helped Yugi and Kaiba during their duel with Dartz. She looked away for a moment, the images flooding her mind once again. She hated it. And right now she hated Kaiba for bringing it up.

Mai's response only earned a smirk from Kaiba. "You and your Canary Lady cards wouldn't stand a chance against my Blue Eyes."he says tauntingly, knowing full well her love of the Harpie Lady cards rivaled that of his for the Blue Eyes. His arms would extend back a bit so that his elbows could rest against the back of the bench. His eyes would drift up to the sky momentarily before he continued.
"Last I checked I only lost to people with some skill...and got to use one of the Legendary Dragons to stop that nutjob Dartz."he continues. "You? You couldn't take the fact you were losing more than you liked and resorted to joining Dartz just so you could taste what real power was."he says coldly, his tone proving that her remark had actually earned more than just a smirk. Of course he was being quiet about his run in with Dan and Agana..having lost to them as well.
"So what brings you back into town anyway?"

"You and your Canary Lady cards wouldn't stand a chance against my Blue Eyes." Mai's violet eyes narrowed at his direct attack towards her Harpy Lady. A lot of dueslists had cards in their deck and that was it. They were strong monsters that made them win duels, and nothing else. Mai on the other hand, felt a strong attachment to her cards. More so with her Harpy Lady. It was the first card she had gotten that was actually worth something, and over the years her strategies had started ot revolve around her the card. She had drifted away from it for a while during Battle City, but that was merely to try and expand her monster cards, since she had only possessed and played with around five in total before Battle City. Now though, her Harpy Lady was back to being her trademark monster, and although she may not have the power of Kaiba's Blue Eyes White Dragon, Yugi's Black Magician, heck even Joey's Red Eyes, she was as important to Mai's eyes as any of those cards were to their owners. "Oh, because your overgrown lizard is definitely something to be afraid of." She shot back. She wasn't dumb, and she obviously knew that the Blue Eyes card was a strong one. But there was no chance than she would let Kaiba insult her favorite card without attacking his.
"Last I checked I only lost to people with some skill...and got to use one of the Legendary Dragons to stop that nutjob Dartz."he continues. "You? You couldn't take the fact you were losing more than you liked and resorted to joining Dartz just so you could taste what real power was." "You shouldn't talk about things you don't understand." She replied softly. She wasn't going to get into the topic of why she joined Dartz with Kaiba. He wouldn't be able to comprehend anyways. "So what brings you back into town anyway?" A small grin pulled at the corner of Mai's lips. "Please tell me you weren't expecting me to pass up an oppurtunity to join in another of your tournament in Domino, that would be pathetic hun." She replied. She had missed one of his tournaments, she was definitely not going to miss another.

"Oh, because your overgrown lizard is definitely something to be afraid of." She shot back. Her attack towards his Blue Eyes earned her a scowl, even if he had attacked her Harpy Lady first. "No,the overgrown lizard is in your mutt boyfriend's deck."he says with a grin, gazing at Mai tauntingly as he brought up another surely sore subject for her. "I mean come on,that Red Eyes has been passed down from loser to loser. Word on the street is it used to belong to that prehistoric wannabe Raptor, and Wheeler won it from him..only to lose it to a Rare Hunter."The look on Kaiba's face would change from taunting to challenging.
"It was then passed to Yugi, where it was at least in the use of someone with the smallest amount of skill..but Wheeler somehow earned it back." "Please tell me you weren't expecting me to pass up an oppurtunity to join in another of your tournament in Domino, that would be pathetic hun." That response nearly made Kaiba grin for once in his life.
"You sure had no problem missing out on my Grand Championship,so I had to make sure you got your invitation this time around. Speaking of which.....Kaiba would pause for a second to adjust the elaborate white trenchcoat he often wore. "Why didn't you enter that? Too afraid to face Wheeler after your betrayal?"

[/blockquote]Joey needed something to do that day; he couldn't find his friends so that was out the question. Yug's busy with his studies, Tea is doing work, and Tristan... I don't know. He thought to himself, putting his hands behind his head. Of course many people were talking about the blond, always coming up near the finals of many tournaments did that to one's reputation. Joey enjoyed basking in that kind of light, but today something felt off for him so Joey ignored all of the comments of people being able to beat him. They wish. Joey closed his eyes. He then heard two very familiar voices, opening his eyes quickly and looking side to side quickly. Finally he spotted two familiar faces. Joey stopped for a moment to listen in on their conversation, letting the small crowd hide him as he listened in.
Joey then quickly walked up to Kaiba and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt. Joey brought his arm back, feeling his hand clinch into a fist. He then swung up to connect it to Seto’s check. Of course, he let this instinct kick in, so Joey wasn’t way to sure what really was going on, he was just letting the adrenalin rush go through his veins. ”You don’t talk to Mai like that! And never insult another’s deck behind their back.” He let Kaiba go, or more like shoved him to ground, of course Joey was half tempted to kick Kaiba while he was at it. Eh, it ain’t gonna hurt no one. Joey thought, rolling his eye, deep down he knew that Kaiba deserved it for everything he had done to him and his friends. His leg swung back and made the connection to Kaiba’s side.
Joey’s good side came in and warned him if this got any further something bad would happen to him. So Joey turned his back and took a large step to make space between him and Kaiba. Of course, Joey was ready to have fist fight if worse came to worse. ”You know ya deserve that.” He said, ignoring the stares the small group got, shoving his hands into his pocket."Also if she doesn't want to face me..." He stopped for a moment, feeling his stomach go into a knot, "She doesn't have to."[/blockquote]

Had she been a violent person she probably would have hit Kaiba at that moment. Unfortunately she had sworn to herself that she was done with violence, in duelling and out of it as well. Although she hadn't sworn to keep her words all that nice. "First of all Kaiba, he is not my boyfriend. Second, he isn't a mutt. You're the inbred little purebred dog prancing around with his ickle blue ribbon." She replied angrily, glaring at the CEO beside her. Who did he think he was? He may be rich, and he may own one of the most prosperous companies in the world, but that did not give him permission to assume things, like the relationship between Joey and herself - whatever that was at the moment.
"You sure had no problem missing out on my Grand Championship, so I had to make sure you got your invitation this time around. Speaking of which.....Why didn't you enter that? Too afraid to face Wheeler after your betrayal?"
Mai felt as though Kaiba's words had turned into a fist and had punched her right in the stomach. Her breath was becoming harder to find for a moment, and she felt a slight sting in her eyes. No, she wasn't going to cry. She wouldn't give him the satisfaction to see her cry. She took a deep breath and turned back to face Kaiba, but she never had the chance to utter a word. ”You don’t talk to Mai like that! And never insult another’s deck behind their back.” Mai jumped up from her seat when Kaiba was lifted from his spot next to her and was then punched by a very known face to Mai. "Joey!" She cried, standing still, her arms on her sides. She was frozen in place, not knowing what to after Joey's attack on Kaiba and simply the blond's appearance.
"Also if she doesn't want to face me...She doesn't have to." A knot tighten itself in Mai's stomach at Joey's words. She was still as a statue, unable to move, or say anything. She had been trying to avoid facing him before. But he had been one of the reasons she agreed to come back for Kaiba's tournament. She wanted to see Joey again, to explain everything, to apologize, and yet the longer she pushed it back, the harder it became for her to string together a coherent apology to tell him. "I wasn't...I wanted to...I mean I..." It was quite a rare ocurence that Mai didn't talk. Even a rarer one that she didn't know what to say. Yet the words wouldn't come out.

Kaiba was just about to make another insult to Mai when out of nowwhere someone or something...likely someone as he didn't believe in the hocus pocus mind tricks like Yugi and the rest of the Geek Squad did on a daily basis. Having been caught of guard meant he didn't have time to defend himself as a fist made contact with his face, splitting his lip wide open before he was thrown to the ground forcefully.
Recognizing the voice that spoke,Kaiba would open his mouth, about to degrade Mai further in front of the owner of the voice before he was kicked right in the side, knocking him to the ground. Wheeler, you just signed your deathwish...thinks Kaiba as he struggles to catch his breath. Something warm would run down his chin, forcing him to wipe whatever it was away with his sleeve. His eyes widened in surprise as he spots a small crimson stain on one of the wristbands he wore.
"And you called me the inbred puppy..."he says painfully to Mai as he rises. "Your loyal guard dog came to your rescue, how cute."he says before turning to face the mutt himself,Joey Wheeler.
"As for you Wheeler, I'll let you slide with jumping me out of nowwhere. It'll be bad publicity for my company if I attack you in public...so let's just say I'll extract my revenge at the tournament. The pre tournament banquet and briefing will be at the Resort. "I'm sure you and the one holding your leash know which one I"m talking about."says Kaiba coldly.
Kaiba then grinned as Mai attempted to stammer out an apology to Joey. "Oh what's the matter..."he says arrogantly, knowing full well that the rumor woudl spread throughout the duelling world quick with his comment, courtesy of the large crowd watching the incident."Not sure what to say to your boyfriend after all this time?"

Joey looked over at Mai, hearing her stammering as to what to say to her. He then looked at Kaiba. "Dat's all you ever think about." He muttered about Kaiba's 'publicity' and how he shouldn't mess it up yet. He then walked over to were Kaiba was at, if he could shot lasers out of his eyes, everyone was pretty sure Seto would've been gone. Part of him didn't know what to say about the relationship guess that Kaiba had put upon him. Joey slightly gulped, feeling his hands form fists once more in his pockets.
"Wanna another fist in your face?" He asked glared, "Ya know me and Mai aren't in a relationship." Joey announced himself, slyly looking side to side at the crowd.

Had there not been a crowd around them Mai was sure to have been the next one to punch Kaiba in the face. He was truly looking for it, and although Mai was never one for violence, but Kaiba's comments were definitely pushing her towards that direction. Their attitudes may not be so different, but their approaches definitely were. Whereas Kaiba would blast someone with words in front of others, Mai would be the one sending the same message through her actions. If she felt that someone was inferior to her, she would act as though they didn't deserve to be around her, and end there. Kaiba instead made everyone feel the sudden need to hurt him.
"Your revenge?" she repeated with a slight snort. "I don't know if I should laugh or feel sorry for you. We all know how your revenges end up turning." As far as she knew, every single one of Kaiba's revenge plans backfired against him. Naturally she wasn't aware of all his past revenge plans, so perhaps there had been some succeses in there. Though she hadn't heard about them. "Oh what's the matter. Not sure what to say to your boyfriend after all this time?" The nerve of him! To announce such a thing in the middle of a crowd. Not only was it a lie, but now in a matter of hours the majority of the duelling community wouldn't think it was. She opened her mouth to to reply back, but it wasn't her voice that answered.
"Wanna another fist in your face? Ya know me and Mai aren't in a relationship." She could hear the slight bit of hesitation in his voice. Of course they weren't, so why had Joey seemed to hesitant to answer? "Of course we're not." She said backing up Joey's comment, shooting a few glares to people in the crowd around, as though daring them to say otherwise. Although what would they know? She looked back at Kaiba, as though daring him to say otherwise.

So what do you think is true? Are they dating? I dunno...Joey says they aren't and so does Mai. Yeah well...Kaiba outranks both of them duelling wise. Yeah..but I heard Kaiba lost to a US Regional Champ at the museum recently.
Those were the responses coming from a crowd, the last one causing a scowl to emerge on his face. So Carlisle opened his mouth...thinks Kaiba, not even bothering to consider the fact that that person may have worked at the museum and seen him storm off. This wasn't going to be good in the slightest. "That duel didn't count for anything. It was a test run for the new Duel Disk that will be introduced at my tournament."he says, not entirely lying. If Agana accepted his offer,it would be released.
Turning towards Mai,he would snicker at her comment of his revenge not meaning anything. "You forget who organized this tournament Valentine..and who determines who duels who."he says, casting a glance at both of them. Oh yes, having the both of them duel each other would be interesting to say the least. She couldn't stand to face Joey..and Joey likely wanted to talk to her. Oh yes, this was going to be the one revenge plot of his that didn't backfire.

What exactly was Aaron Colza doing in the park?
What else?
Looking for girls.
And boy, was he doing it in a creepy manner. This wasn't the first time he'd been stalking. It certainly wouldn't be his last.
He shifted his position in the tree slightly, because the branch behind him had started to dig into his back. He had been watching the fight going on below him for awhile now, and when he had heard that they weren't in a relationship, he knew it was nearly time to strike.
But no, not yet. He knew that he had to wait for that Kaiba character to leave; having him there could only cause problems...
Unless...
A terribly wonderful idea began to form, and he realized with shocking clarity how he could make this work. It would require a mild bit of wit, but he was sure he could do it.
Aaron lept from the tree, the birds nest he was using for camouflage falling back into it's proper place, nestled between the branches of the tree, and landed in front of the beautiful blond sitting on the park bench, a shower of leaves heralding him.
Turning towards her, a smile of compassion, and friendship graced his face. A rose seemed to appear in his hand from nowhere, and he pressed it softly into the woman's hand.
It was, of course, de-thorned.
"Are you quite alright mam," he asked earnestly, compassion tinging his voice. "I couldn't help but notice you seemed to be in a bit of a predicament..."
Turning on his heel, his hand and finger pointing dramatically, he faced the Kaiba character, anger accenting his voice.
"And you! How dare you insult a woman of such grace and beauty in this manner?! I would take you down myself, if I wasn't so concerned about the well being of this poor, innocent woman!" he yelled, realizing at the last moment exactly who he was yelling at.
Terror of the utmost degree passed through him, and it was visible in the way his finger drooped, and his face grew dark.
"Y-you.... You're... Seto? S-seto... Kaiba?"

Zac walked around the park too. After his event in the nightclub with Aaron he wanted to scope out more contenders. That's when he saw two blonde people and...Kaiba! Well isn't this convient. He waled towards them when Aaron appeared with them, doing his weird charm thing. Oh ear god...
Zac smirked when he approached them. "Well if it isn't Seto Kaiba again...still bossing people around?" He shook his head at Aaron then sighed.
