It was her usual work week. Every other day, she rode, at great speed, to the nightclub. The curvature of the young woman was more defined by her close-fitting attire that seemed to belong in some sci-fi movie. In reality, Maia was just dressing for success. Her Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays were her nights as the DJ at the Yokubo Nightclub and it was as much a visual performance as it was audible. She'd made it so that her Saturday nights were known at 'Nights in the Future' by her all of the club-goers.
She shut off the engine of her bike in the back lot of the club and took off her helmet. Her short, purple hair was slightly messy thanks to the helmet, but it was nothing she couldn't fix before the show started.
Confidently and with much anticipation, she sauntered to the backdoor and unlocked it. She started down the narrow hall and stopped at a door with her name on it. After flicking a switch, the lights inside came on and she started to play with her messed up hair in the mirror. A brush and a bit of hairspray later, and she was good to go. A smirk hit her face as she went onto a dark and fog-covered stage. Every step was on a different clear tile that lit up with a white light for a mere second as she walked to a large black box on the center of the stage.
When she reached it, she flicked a small toggle nonchalantly and the box lit up with red and blue LED lights. Simultaneously, all the stage floor tiles lit up as well as the screens behind her. The house was pretty full tonight like most Saturdays were. Everything was just powering up on stage and the crowd was already going nuts. Maia's smirk widened to a full-on grin as she grabbed the microphone on the console and shouted out while pointing at the crowd. "WHO'S READY TO JOURNEY... INTO THE FUTURE!?"
The crowd roared in response to her. They were ready. She set down the mic and put on her headphones. A button was pressed and the first song of the night started playing. The screens and the floor tiles flashed in patterns that matched the tempo of the song thumping through the speakers and the crowd began to dance. Maia's head was bobbing as she concentrated on her soundboard, adjusting small things to keep it sounding nice.
A few seconds in and she pressed another button. The screens flashed a radioactive warning symbol for a second before the hologram projectors fired up. Soon the symbol seemed to just rip itself from the screens and float above the dancers. It then split into three silhouetted copies of Maia. Above the crowd they began to dance. Just another way she made the night her's.
